Probably one of the most heart wrenching memoirs I ve ever read So glad this one had a happy ending though The only reason I knocked a star off was because she never said what happened to Millie and Mary Ann or if she didn t know Or if she ever got in touch with her mom when she finally got away and I was also curious about her youngest brother Robbie.

This is a book that clearly Frances Grubb had to write, but I found some of it bordered on unbelievable not the violence and abuse, which are all too commonly real even in the most upstanding families, or the effects of alcoholism on a family, but in the way Jesus and Frances faith is woven through her childhood Young children especially terrorized children do not naturally come to Jesus just because there s a Bible lying in the floorboard of the car, and the author did not believably convey how [...]

What a torturous, heart wrenching account of cruelty but I am so glad I read it The book is well written and the audio is beautifully narrated.The faith and perseverance of this little girl was an inspiring, humbling account I am a better person for having read this.I wish I could meet the author, give her a big hug and be her friend.

Cruel Harvest was a very tough read simply because it is so graphic in describing the abuse the family endured I wasn t expecting that and had to stop just to collect myself and continue reading a lot.

Great book, heart wrenching story Highly recommended.

Positive spin to a real life dysfunctional childhood, very brave writer

This is an unbelievable story that ends with true forgiveness.

I read this book as a favor to a good friend who said, You have to read it this is just what I grew up with The further I read, the horrified I became at what the author and my friend had to endure And the it made me wonder who I might know right now who is going through the same sort of unspeakable tortures This book is an abrupt, breathtaking eye opener.

I spotted this book at the library a while ago and eyed it for months before finally taking the plunge I suspected that it would be really sad it is , make me feel depressed it did , but still be worth the read it was This is a book that the author clearly needed to write as part of her healing process, and I m thankful that she s been so open and vulnerable.

So disturbingn t stop thinking about this book and these real life people I cried with Frances several times I think touching also to listen to the author s voice tell her own story with the audio version Be warned, if you have a heart you will not get away from this story unscathed

Completely, utterly blown away I was up until midnight two nights in a row totally sucked in A great read alike for The Sound of Gravel or The Glass Castle.

I don t usually read memoirs, but I thought I would give this one a try, and I am glad that I did Fran lives with her siblings, mother and her father They live in poverty and are always moving around a lot Fran lives in fear of her father, but she never expresses hatred toward him, even though he is mentally and physically abusive to all of his children and his wife Fran and her sisters had to suffer sexual abuse from their father She constantly lived in fear wondering what abuse she would suffe [...]

The story is Mrs Grubb s memoir of her life growing up with an abusive father This was a hard book to read I ve always had a very tender spot in my heart for children that have to endure abuse I never had to and am so thankful to my Heavenly Father for his grace in my life Mrs Grubb s story was shocking, appalling and full of hope Her journey led her all over the country and down many dark paths There were times of light in her life though that made all the difference to her story Most interesti [...]
